How did it get so late so soon? It’s night before it’s afternoon. December is here before it’s June. My goodness how the time has flewn! How did it get so late so soon? Dr. Seuss
It’s tough getting our heads around this: We aren’t going to be able to make the May deadline to open our doors. As hard as everyone is working, this winter weather has managed to slow us down at every turn. Oh, the weather!
I know this is Canada and that snow and ice are part of life, but man…this has been a tough one. In terms of Campus Co-op Commons, there are certain irrefutable laws of construction that have to be followed. The first is: build from the bottom up. The second is: work from the outside in.
How are roofers supposed to finish the roof in minus 25 temperatures? How can they work on an icy pitched slope? Same goes for exterior insulation, windows, doors…all slowed down by Mother Nature.
It’s amazing how much work continues to get done, and how hard everyone continues to work toward completion. But the hard fact is that there will be too much left to do to open in May. We don’t want our students moving in to an unfinished building surrounded by construction. The Guelph Campus Co-op has worked too long and too hard not to open properly, proud of what we’ve accomplished: A building built by students, for students; A quality project well-built that will serve the needs of University of Guelph students for years to come.
In the scheme of things, that’s worth a couple of months wait, wouldn’t you say?
